WELLNESS IS REDEFINING LUXURY REAL ESTATE
Once upon a time, high-end properties were all about marble countertops and grand chandeliers. I saw this first-hand watching my parents build our house in Richmond Hill from the ground up - the foyer was a feast for the eyes, served up on a spread of smooth marble - they were obsessed with marble. Today, that home probably would have never felt complete without some sort of built-in home gym, or at least a Himalayan salt lamp in the corner!
Nowadays, the most coveted homes are designed to enhance your health, vitality, and longevity. Buyers are prioritizing wellness features that optimize their sleep, nutrition, fitness, and mental clarity - a shift that resonates with me deeply, having spent over a decade working in luxury fitness and wellness spaces.
However, if you're anything like me, you aren't about to pack up your life from the downtown core and retreat to the suburbs to mow your own lawn - at least not yet.
For many fellow Millennials and Gen-Z-ers, the goal is to find properties within the city that either have wellness amenities within them, or are in close proximity to establishments that already have them. Places like The Well on Spadina and Front St, or Altea Active in Liberty Village and soon-to-be Yorkville, have created spaces for young professionals to thrive outside of their busy work schedules.
These places build community, they prioritize a high standard of quality, but the question for most buyers is, "What's the affordability?"
I have been obsessed with health and fitness for almost twenty years - at this point, I can't even look at a home without considering whether or not it will benefit my client's health and choice of lifestyle - it's literally inherent to me.
Because of that, I have become increasingly savvy when it comes to finding well-priced units in completely decked out buildings and areas.
Life has enough challenges of its own, to have leisure in your home is something that I believe everyone deserves.
That being said, here are some popular trends that have been resonating with today’s buyers!
KEY WELLNESS TRENDS IN LUXURY REAL ESTATE
- Air & Water Purification Systems - High performance individuals understand that clean air and water are non-negotiable for peak health. Homes with hospital-grade air filtration and purified water systems provide an edge in longevity.
- Circadian Lighting & Biophilic Design - Natural light exposure regulates your sleep-wake cycle. Modern luxury homes incorporate smart lighting and nature-inspired design to align with your body's rhythm.
- Private Recovery & Fitness Spaces - For many, feeling optimal requires more than a basic home gym set-up. Buyers are investing in infrared saunas, cold plunge pools, meditation rooms, and soundproof recovery spaces - if not within their own homes, than in the establishments and facilities nearby.
- On-Demand Wellness Services - Buyers in Toronto and around the globe have become accustomed to in-home IV therapy, cryotherapy, personal training, and holistic treatments available at their fingertips.
WHY IT MATTERS
Just as a well-structured training plan optimizes physical results, a home designed for wellness optimizes longevity, performance, and quality of life. I believe that luxury isn't only found in what you HAVE, it's found in how you FEEL, and helping you to discover these gems happens to be my specialty.
